Wastewater Treatment Department

Sheila Dietrich; Plant Supervisor

GMA's Wastewater plant was built in 1986 and was upgraded in 2000 and 2013. The plant uses a dual train treatment consisting of extended aeration and sequential batch reactor (SBR) process which utilizes biological and nutrient removal technology enhancing the effluent and reducing the organic load.  The plant has a daily maximum capacity of 3.0 million gallons.

GMA also operates the Hunterstown system which is  located at the intersection of route 394 and Hunterstown Road. It serves Hunterstown along with the surrounding area.  This plant uses the SBR treatment process.  The Hunterstown plant has a rated capacity of .232 MGD.

Wastewater personnel are responsible for maintaining 7 pump stations through out the service area. On average 1.2 million gallons of sewage is collected and treated daily.

Educational tours of our facility can be arranged for businesses, educational organizations, and interested groups located within the GMA service area by calling  (717) 334-6738 ext. 231
